Philip Rivers To Host 5K Walk & Fun Run on Sept. 4

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will host the first annual “2010 Philip Rivers Celebrity 5K Walk & Fun Run presented by EDCO.”

Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4, the charity event will take place at NTC Park in Liberty Station in Point Loma, with proceeds to benefit the Rivers of Hope Foundation, a non-profit charity recently started by Rivers and his wife, Tiffany.

“I’m excited to be part of this fun, family-oriented event,” said Rivers. “This is especially fulfilling for me because we’ll be able to raise funds that help support efforts to find permanent, loving homes for hundreds of foster children in San Diego.”

The 5K run will begin at 8:15 am and the walk will begin at 8:30 am and will include a beautiful walk along the water at NTC Park in Liberty Station. After the 5K run, an awards ceremony for the top three men and women finishers under 40 and over 40 will be held, along with family-themed music and entertainment.

The Philip Rivers Celebrity 5k Walk & Fun Run presented by EDCO represents a prime opportunity for serious and casual runners, as well as family members and friends, to kick off the Labor Day weekend.  Race participants will have the opportunity to participate in free events and activities throughout the day.  

These events will include a complimentary food court, a Kids Fun Zone with “bounce houses,” and live music.  In addition, all paid entrant walkers will receive a free SportClips haircut and the first 1,000 paid adult entrants will receive a free pair of silver and pearl earrings from Robere's Jewelry, a $75 value. The first 1,000 paid entrants will also receive a signed football card of Philip Rivers.
